The end of a chapter

I entered the university alone, choosing a course different from the majority and ended up only having 11 students enrolled in the same course. I decided to shuffle my course plan hence, having less chance to interact with those colleagues. At the end, I was able to know different range of students across the university. Somehow, I managed to get along with friends from opposite faculties and this friendship still continues until now. If there is one thing that I regret when I moved to another campus is that I didn’t spend enough time during my stay with them. I also have memorable experiences and feel blessed to know and be surrounded by magnificent people when doing social activity, i.e. church.

Be parted with those who are close to us was a difficult moment for me, especially when I had to move alone to another campus. Having little knowledge about the new place, I had to endure some hardships especially living with those who are having very different culture. I remembered the night I arrived, I decided to call my ex-roommate and almost cried on the phone, in the middle of a shopping mall because I was feeling lonely. Because I was in a very remote countryside, there was a huge transition that I had to face. I had to start all over again, looking for new friends and trying to cope with the new culture, a very independent one. I have to say there are new hobbies and/or habits that I developed during my stay in this place. Develop a relationship with people is not an easy task for me however, I do find few good people here including, having an intimate relationship with an ex-classmate. One very good thing that I think is the feature of this place is that we live so nearby to each other that people are treated as one big family and it is shown through occasions that we usually held.

This four and half year journey has come to its conclusion; praise the Lord, I finally hold Bachelor degree(s). There is a huge relief after the result is announced. I have to say, I have experienced an incredible journey. Now I can close this chapter and ought to start a new chapter of my life.

The waiting period

If my previous post sounds so desperate, this time is probably the opposite.
Roughly two weeks ago, I left Australia and stayed in Singapore for 7 days. While the main purpose of visiting this country is to do medical check-up, I for sure did some shopping and catching-up with friends.

I was able to see some friends whom I haven't seen for long time, high school and college friends, some church friends from KL, and definitely those who are very close to me. What we did basically was sitting at a makan place where we can sit and talk for hours while only ordering food for one time only :p One thing to highlight from these encounters is that I was able to laugh freely and have fun while sharing stories with them, something that I haven't experience for quite a while.
Another thing to add is that because my level of crazyness, I watched 5 movies in cinema within my stay in Singapore.

I did listen to different stories from different people. Sometimes it is part of our life-sharing experience is to sit down and listen to people's story in order to understand how people cope with their life. While some of us are capable to deal it with own strength, sometimes it is better for us to share our story and so we can hear opinions from others, those whom we trust.

My last semester of Bachelor's degree

Without doubt, that was my toughest semester so far.
Besides my physical injuries, I have an emotional problem that affects my psychological capability.
I was worried, frustated, feared, stressed and being emo for so many times and there was a time when I almost break apart and gave up my fight. So many things that came into my life and I was so pessimistic that I could handle everything to its standard.
I feel useless and worthless, and have no desire to continue on living.
I have to say, it wasn't easy to pass those days.
...
But at the end of the day, I was reminded that everyone has their own struggle. We have to fight in our own life. And the best part of it is that to realise that we are weak but strong if we live up everything to God. To let God plays part in our life and guide us in His way.

I feel grateful that I have passed those days and hopefully, I did enough to finish my degree.
I feel blessed that everytime I am down, God sent His people to comfort me and not letting me down forever.
I was tempted to do so many bad things nonetheless, I decided not to do it.
With exam period is now over, a student like me can do is to cross my fingers and waiting anxiously for the announcement day.

If I were...

If I were to die tomorrow,
I wonder how many people out there will weep for me?
and will I be remembered after that?

This question struck me while I was contemplating about my life.

I was facing crisis a while ago and one of of my options (resolutions) was to commit suicide.
At that time I thought if I were to die then I won't have to endure all the pains that I had to and the problem will be solved if I am gone.
I had a serious chat with some people and I feel blessed after those conversations.
While all of them encouraged me not to do that.. there was one person who actually scolded me for thinking this idea. And there was someone who keep telling me all the bad consequences that will happen if I were to do it.

Everyone of us is not immortal and at one point we will have to die.
And to realize that we only have limited time in this world makes us think, how am I going to fill it with so much things happen everyday. We won't be able to grab everything but at least, there will be something (useful) that we can do in our own way.

Live to the fullest and to make use every single second that is given to us OR
to waste the time and regret it at the end.

It's your choice!

Marco Pierre White

Marco Pierre White on his retirement in 1999:
"But I had the grand slam and I thought, where can I go from here? I was being judged by people who had less knowledge than me, so what was it truly worth? I gave Michelin inspectors too much respect, and I belittled myself. I had three options: I could be a prisoner of my world and continue to work six days a week I could live a lie and charge high prices and not be behind the stove or I could give my stars back, spend time with my children and re-invent myself. I never left the stove, I never lived that lie. I'm not that trusting that someone could do what I did. That's why I bowed out."

on his advice to young chefs:
"To realise your potential, first understand why you are doing what you are doing. What is your motivation? If you are prepared to invest the time and have the capability of a star, go and get it. But don't lie to yourself. Be a realist: only work for something you truly want, something that's possible within yourself. For many years I put all my energies on a plate. But I was socially inept. I had no self-knowledge. Once you discover yourself as a person then you will be able to discover food for what it is, and cook the type of food that you want to cook. I believe the industry allows people to express themselves, better themselves and create security like no other industry. But allow Mother Nature to be the artist, and put your energies into the cooking. Get into a good kitchen, stay for five years, keep your head down, take the bollockings and learn your trade."

Indonesia, mari belajar

p.s.: Saya masih cinta Indonesia koq :)

Vigil Homily by Pope Benedict XVI at World Youth Day 2011

Dear Young Friends,

I greet all of you, especially the young people who have asked me their questions, and I thank them for the sincerity with which they set forth their concerns, that express the longing which all of you have to achieve something great in life, something which can bring you fulfilment and happiness.

How can a young person be true to the faith and yet continue to aspire to high ideals in today’s society? In the Gospel we have just heard, Jesus gives us an answer to this urgent question: “As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love” (Jn 15:9).

Yes, dear friends, God loves us. This is the great truth of our life; it is what makes everything else meaningful. We are not the product of blind chance or absurdity; instead our life originates as part of a loving plan of God. To abide in his love, then, means living a life rooted in faith, since faith is more than the mere acceptance of certain abstract truths: it is an intimate relationship with Christ, who enables us to open our hearts to this mystery of love and to live as men and women conscious of being loved by God.

If you abide in the love of Christ, rooted in the faith, you will encounter, even amid setbacks and suffering, the source of true happiness and joy. Faith does not run counter to your highest ideals; on the contrary, it elevates and perfects those ideals. Dear young people, do not be satisfied with anything less than Truth and Love, do not be content with anything less than Christ.

Nowadays, although the dominant culture of relativism all around us has given up on the search for truth, even if it is the highest aspiration of the human spirit, we need to speak with courage and humility of the universal significance of Christ as the Saviour of humanity and the source of hope for our lives. He who took upon himself our afflictions, is well acquainted with the mystery of human suffering and manifests his loving presence in those who suffer. They in their turn, united to the passion of Christ, share closely in his work of redemption. Furthermore, our disinterested attention towards the sick and the forgotten will always be a humble and warm testimony of God’s compassionate regard.

Dear friends, may no adversity paralyze you. Be afraid neither of the world, nor of the future, nor of your weakness. The Lord has allowed you to live in this moment of history so that, by your faith, his name will continue to resound throughout the world.

During this prayer vigil, I urge you to ask God to help you find your vocation in society and in the Church, and to persevere in that vocation with joy and fidelity. It is a good thing to open our hearts to Christ’s call and to follow with courage and generosity the path he maps out for us.

The Lord calls many people to marriage, in which a man and a woman, in becoming one flesh (cf. Gen 2:24), find fulfilment in a profound life of communion. It is a prospect that is both bright and demanding. It is a project for true love which is daily renewed and deepened by sharing joys and sorrows, one marked by complete self-giving. For this reason, to acknowledge the beauty and goodness of marriage is to realize that only a setting of fidelity and indissolubility, along with openness to God’s gift of life, is adequate to the grandeur and dignity of marital love.

Christ calls others to follow him more closely in the priesthood or in consecrated life. It is hard to put into words the happiness you feel when you know that Jesus seeks you, trusts in you, and with his unmistakable voice also says to you: “Follow me!” (cf. Mk 2:14).

Dear young people, if you wish to discover and to live faithfully the form of life to which the Lord is calling each of you, you must remain in his love as his friends. And how do we preserve friendship except through frequent contact, conversation, being together in good times and bad? Saint Teresa of Jesus used to say that prayer is just such “friendly contact, often spending time alone with the one who we know loves us” (cf. Autobiography, 8).

And so I now ask you to “abide” in the adoration of Christ, truly present in the Eucharist. I ask you to enter into conversation with him, to bring before him your questions and to listen to his voice. Dear friends, I pray for you with all my heart. And I ask you to pray for me. Tonight let us ask the Lord to grant that, attracted by the beauty of his love, we may always live faithfully as his disciples. Amen.

Dear Friends: I thank you for your joy and your resistance. Your strength is greater than the rain. Thank you. With rain the Lord has sent us many blessings. In this also, you are an example.

[French] Dear young French-speakers, be proud of the gift of faith which you have received, as it will illumine your life at every moment. Draw strength from the faith of your neighbours, from the faith of the Church! Through faith we are grounded in Christ. Gather with others to deepen it, be faithful to the celebration of the Eucharist, the mystery of faith par excellence. Christ alone can respond to your aspirations. Let yourselves be seized by God, so that your presence in the Church will give her new life!

[English] Dear young people, in these moments of silence before the Blessed Sacrament, let us raise our minds and hearts to Jesus Christ, the Lord of our lives and of the future. May he pour out his Spirit upon us and upon the whole Church, that we may be a beacon of freedom, reconciliation and peace for the whole world.

[German] Dear young Christians from the German-speaking countries! Deep in our hearts we yearn for what is grand and beautiful in life. Do not let your desires and aspirations dissipate, but ground them in Jesus Christ. He himself is the sure foundation, the point of reference, for building up your life.

[Italian] I now turn to the Italian-speaking young people. Dear friends, this vigil will remain as an unforgettable experience in your lives. Guard the flame which God has lit in your hearts tonight. Never let it go out, renew it each day, share it with your contemporaries who live in darkness and who are seeking a light for their way. Thank you! Until tomorrow morning!

[Portuguese] My dear friends, I invite each of you to enter into a personal dialogue with Christ, sharing with him your hesitations and above all listening to his voice. The Lord is here and he is calling you! Young friends, it is good to hear within us the word of Jesus and to follow in his footsteps. Ask the Lord to help you to discover your vocation in life and in the Church, and to persevere in it with joy and fidelity, knowing that he never abandons you or betrays you! He remains with us until the end of the world.

[Polish] Dear young friends from Poland! This prayer vigil is filled with the presence of Christ. Grounded in his love, draw near to him with the flame of your faith. He will fill your hearts with his life. Build your lives on Christ and on his Gospel. I willingly bless all of you.

* * *

Dear Young Friends,

We have lived together an adventure. Strengthened by your faith in Christ, you have resisted the rain. Before leaving I wish you all good night. Have a good rest. I thank you for the sacrifice that you are making and I have no doubt that you will offer it generously to the Lord. We shall see one another tomorrow, God willing, in the celebration of the Eucharist. I am expecting all of you. I thank you for the fine example that you have given. As happened tonight, you can always, with Christ, endure the trials of life. Do not forget this. I thank you all.

19 August 2011

5 years ago when I am diagnosed with a disorder on my spinal structure, spina bifida, I never thought about it seriously. To be honest, I just don't care about it, especially after the doctor said there is nothing they can do about it. I just lose hope and at the same time, pretend to ignore it.

Just two weeks ago I had a CT Scan to find out that I have a prolapse disc, which I believe it occurs when I lift heavy luggage during my holiday in China last July. After hearing that, I thought I was going to be disable for life, especially after I suffered severe pain everyday and throughout the day, and I am unable to bend, until now.

By chance, I just turn 23 today.. =D

and to say that I can turn into a 23 years old person with such condition is really a blessing for me.
I can still walk as a normal person, I can still do activity, and I am still alive!

For my entire life, never I feel this grateful before. I truly believe that God loves me no matter what and God will never leave His people behind. He will always be with us during our hard time and also during our good time.

Hence, here I want to say my humble and gracious thank you to the Father in Heaven.

Aku bersyukur karena bisa mempunyai such a beatiful life, not perfect but still gorgeous.
Dan aku hanya bisa berdoa untuk berkatMu di hari-hari yang akan datang.

Finally,,,

Happy BIRTHDAY to Ms. C.H.L. Ganda too!!!

Human = Car?

I feel like I am a car..
Went to a sport store in Jakarta, bought swimming trunks and spotted swimming towel so I brought it along for $10.. It is a big money in Indonesia.
It turned out to be the similar towel that we usually use to wipe the car..
If that's the case, I should just get the cheaper one from an automotive store... same function, cheaper price.

That exciting?

Today I learn something..

It is so easy for me to get excited when I see someone who is famous, has position/power and has nothing to do with my life...
but, I don't get the same excitement when l see a friend who knows everything about me and is so close to my life..

awkward isn't it?

We all experience this kind of situation with or without conscienceness

but...

it's up to us to choose which one do we like and bear the consequences.

I was waiting for someone in Changi airport, back in November.. and had this thought.
Why these following words very common to appear in people's conversation, when you are in an airport?

  • Check-in
  • Passport
  • Immigration
  • Bubye
of course, there are so many other words that comes on people's conversation.. but just picking up some that are catchy for me..

Understanding a pooh

She has a small brain and gets bullied (and bitten) so often
When a pooh listen to more than 3 sentences, she will say its too complicated
She prefers to listen and nod (means agree) or saying hmm instead of talking
When she doesn’t agree with you, she will say it’s boring

She doesn't like inefficiency so she likes to talk about being efficient
When a pooh says I will go to shower, she will take at least an hour before she really goes to shower
She is a clean freak person
She sleeps after 12am and wakes up in the afternoon
She likes chocolate so much and coke too
She is addicted to coffee
She makes Winnie-the-Pooh voice version when she says ‘NO’
She likes to dress girly and doesn’t like to see a girl in tomboyish appearance

When a pooh says bye, it means she is asking you to hang up the phone

When a pooh says it's boring, that means move on to another conversation
She hates to study
She has pooh cheeks!
She spent 10 years wearing a bracer and retainer
Her Chinese is pretty good
I don’t think she likes hot weather because during cold weather she can eat a lot and builds her Winnie the Pooh figure
She is a POKE queen!

Despite that, I think, I guess, I hope.... I fell for you

I'm sad

You hate me...

and you said I'm hopeless

What should I do to marry a rich guy?

A young and pretty lady posted this on a popular forum:

Title: What should I do to marry a rich guy?

I'm going to be honest of what I'm going to say here. I'm 25 this year. I'm very pretty, have style and good taste.  I wish to marry a guy with $500k annual salary or above.

You might say that I'm greedy, but an annual salary of $1M is considered only as middle class in New York.

My requirement is not high.  Is there anyone in this forum who has an income of $500k annual salary?  Are you all married?

I wanted to ask:  what should I do to marry rich persons like you?

Among those I've dated, the richest is $250k annual income, and it seems that this is my upper limit.

If someone is going to move into high cost residential area on the west of New York City Garden,  $250k annual income is not enough.

I'm here humbly to ask a few questions:
1) Where do most rich bachelors hang out? (Please list down the names and addresses of bars, restaurant, gym)
2) Which age group should I target?
3) Why most wives of the riches are only average-looking?  I've met a few girls who don't have looks and are not interesting,  but they are able  to marry rich guys.
4) How do you decide who can be your wife, and who can only be your girlfriend? (my target now is to get married)

Ms. Pretty

A philosophical reply from CEO of J.P. Morgan:

Dear Ms. Pretty,
I have read your post with great interest.  Guess there are lots of girls out there who have similar questions like yours. Please allow me to analyse your situation as a professional investor.

My annual income is more than $500k, which meets your requirement, so I hope everyone believes that I'm not wasting time here.

From the standpoint of a business person, it is a bad decision to marry you. The answer is very simple, so let me explain.

Put the details aside, what you're trying to do is an exchange of "beauty" and "money" :  Person A provides beauty, and Person B pays for it, fair and square.

However, there's a deadly problem here, your beauty will fade, but my money will not be gone without any good reason. The fact is, my income might increase from year to year,  but you can't be prettier year after year.

Hence from the viewpoint of economics, I am an appreciation asset, and you are a depreciation asset. It's not just normal depreciation, but exponential depreciation. If that is your only asset, your value will be much worse 10 years later.

By the terms we use in Wall Street, every trading has a position, dating with you is also a "trading position". If the trade value dropped we will sell it and it is not a good idea to keep it for long term - same goes with the marriage that you wanted.   It might be cruel to say this, but in order to make a wiser decision any assets with great depreciation value will be sold or "leased".

Anyone with over $500k annual income is not a fool;  we would only date you, but will not marry you. I would advice that you forget looking for any clues to marry a rich guy. And by the way, you could make yourself to become a rich person with $500k annual income. This has better chance than finding a rich fool.

Hope this reply helps.  If you are interested in "leasing" services, do contact me.

What are words

Anywhere you are, I am near
Anywhere you go, I'll be there
Anytime you whisper my name, you'll see
How every single promise I keep
Cuz what kind of guy would I be
If I was to leave when you need me most

What are words
If you really don't mean them
When you say them
What are words
If they're only for good times
Then they don't
When it's love
Yeah, you say them out loud
Those words, They never go away
They live on, even when we're gone

And I know an angel was sent just for me
And I know I'm meant to be where I am
And I'm gonna be
Standing right beside her tonight

And I'm gonna be by your side
I would never leave when she needs me most

What are words
If you really don't mean them
When you say them
What are words
If they're only for good times
Then they don't
When it's love
Yeah, you say them out loud
Those words, They never go away
They live on, even when we're gone

Anywhere you are, I am near
Anywhere you go, I'll be there
And I'm gonna be here forever more
Every single promise I keep
Cuz what kind of guy would I be
If I was to leave when you need me most

I'm forever keeping my angel close

Love and Proactive People

"My friend, love is a verb. Love - the feeling - is a fruit of love, the verb. So love her. Serve her. Sacrifice. Listen to her. Empathize. Appreciate. Affirm her. Are you willing to do that?"

Proactive people make love a verb. Love is something you do: the sacrifice you make, the giving of self, like a mother bringing a newborn into the world. If you want to study love, study those who sacrifice for others, even for people who offend or do not love in return. If you are a parent, look at the love you have for the children you sacrificed for. Love is a value that is actualized through loving actions. Proactive people subordinate feelings to values. Love, the feeling, can be recaptured.

What is Love?

Is it love when you have so many ex-girlfriends or ex-boyfriends?
Suppose a guy has 5 girlfriends on his single-hood period, one after another. Every time they went on a date, the guy said "I Love You" to the girl. If he has 5 girlfriends, which one does he really love? Is the word "love" is meant to be said so easily?

Is it love when you keep changing your partners?
Suppose a woman has 3 divorces in her life and now having a relationship with another guy. Apparently, to exchange partners is quite common to the celebrities. Which guy does she really love? Is the word "love" can be easily moved between one guy after another? How about the vows that are made on your wedding ceremony? Is it just words to be said or does it really come from the heart?

My Love Language Personal Profile

I did the test online and here's the result:

5 for Words of Affirmation
11 for Quality Time
7 for Receiving Gifts
3 for Act of Service
4 for Physical Touch

Quality Time
In Quality Time, nothing says “I love you” like full, undivided attention. Being there for this type of person is critical, but really being there—with the TV off, fork and knife down, and all chores and tasks on standby—makes you feel truly special and loved. Distractions, postponed activities, or the failure to listen can be especially hurtful.

Interpretation:
The highest score indicates your primary love language (the highest score is 12). It’s not uncommon to have two high scores, although one language does have a slight edge for most people. That just means two languages are important to you.

The lower scores indicate those languages you seldom use to communicate love and which probably don’t affect you very much on an emotional level.

You may have scored certain ones of the love languages more highly than others, but do not dismiss those other languages as insignificant. Your friends and loved ones may express love in those ways, and it will be beneficial for you to understand this about them.

In the same way, it will benefit your friends and loved ones to know your love language and express his affection for you in ways that you interpret as love. Every time you or they speak one another’s language, you score emotional points with one another. Of course, this isn’t a game with a scorecard! The payoff of speaking each other’s love language is more of a feeling of “this person understands me and cares for me.” This translates into better communication, increased understanding, and, ultimately, improved relationship.

I'd like to encourage you to do so because you will know what to expect in your relationship and how to work on it

Change

You can't change the world
and don't expect people to change but,
if you want to see the difference
start to change it from yourself
